It was much harder coming up with just 5 books this season. There are so many "new releases" that are worth all the hype and promotion. But, alas, here are my top 5 books to read this winter - a few new ones and a couple hidden gems. 1. Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll This is a twisty little gem about a woman named Ani, with a fancy job and a wealthy fiance, and the deep dark secret from her teen years that she's kept buried under her Prada purse and red bottom shoes. Will uncovering the secrets set her free or destroy everything she's done to reinvent herself? 2. Secrets She Kept by Cathy Gohlke This is one of those books that blew me away. Hannah always saw her mother as a mystery, never understanding why she was the way she was.                                               I love mac and cheese. Creamy, gooey, cheesey, baked goodness. Perfect for any holiday get together. And it's easier than all get out.  Ingredients: 1 lb. elbow macaroni 1 can cheddar cheese soup 4 cups shredded cheddar 1 cup milk 8 oz. sour cream Seasoned salt Pepper Powdered garlic 1 stick of butter Step 1: Boil your pasta and drain. Step 2:  In a pot, melt one stick of butter. Step 3: Add 1 cup cheddar cheese soup (adds the artificial goodness of life), 1 cup milk, and 8 oz. sour cream. At this point I also add 1 teaspoon seasoned salt, 1 teaspoon pepper and 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of garlic powder. Step 4: Add 4 cups of shredded cheddar cheese (leave a little extra out for the top). Stir until completely melted. Step 5: Stir in cooked pasta. Step 6: In a buttered baking dish, add the mac and cheese and top with some shredded cheese for extra credit. Step 7:

I know I missed the mark on posting this before Thanksgiving but does stuffing season really end until after Christmas? Nope. We don't eat stuffing year round but from mid-November to December 25th it is our thang. And my apple sausage stuffing is the delicious, no one will be disappointed. Ingredients: 1 sweet or yellow onion 2 apples (I like honey crisp) 1 cup chopped celery 1 lb. ground Italian sausage (or sage sausage) 1 bag plain stuffing mix (not stove top, you just need the croutons in it) Sage Thyme Basil Garlic Salt and Pepper Chicken broth 1 egg Step 1:  1 cup diced celery 1 diced yellow onion 2 diced apples Step 2: Brown sausage, then set aside to drain In a sauce pan saute onion, apples, and celery with a little chicken broth Season with salt and pepper and garlic powder Once the veggies/fruit are softened and carmelized add the cooked sausage Step 3: Add one bag of stuffing croutons to the mixture in a large bowl, add ab

Stocking stuffers for kids (especially under the age of 10) are super easy. I mean they've got all the best treats and trinkets lined up in the aisle at Target. Stocking stuffers for husbands on the other hand can get tricky. Here what's in my husband's stocking this year. 1. Metal insulated tumbler with a straw (we love these) 2. Gum 3. Car air freshener 4. Candy candy cane (everyone needs this no matter your age) 5. Cologne/body spray 6. Scalp massager (mostly because I want it) I'll probably throw in some more candies and the traditional orange at the bottom but this is honestly all that will fit. A year ago I did not want to get an elf. Mr. Claus took it upon himself to send an elf to our front door last Christmas, if you get what I'm saying. I thought I would hate it. I don't. I think it is a lot of fun and much less "work" than I thought it'd be. The kids are obsessed with our elf, Snowy. One child even cried when she left last year (and then again in June when she missed her). Anyway, I thought it'd be such a hassle but then again, our kids are growing so fast. This kind of magic and whimsy doesn't last forever so Snowy is now a welcome member of our household. Here are a few things our elf has been up to... Campfire and s'mores.
